US manufacturer Bay Tek Games has agreed a licensing deal with Vietnam’s .GEARS Studio to bring its mobile app game Flappy Bird to the pay-to-play amusements sector.

Flappy Bird was released in 2013 but came to prominence the following year when it was downloaded over 50 million times. The app was removed from app stores but, due to demand, was re-released.

Bay Tek has created a skill-based ticket redemption game based on the app, challenging players to manoeuvre the bird through openings in pipes by tapping a button. Having the bird touch one of the pipes or the ground ends the game for the player. The score is based on how many pipes the bird successfully passes through.

“We are thrilled to be working in partnership with .GEARS Studio,” said Gaetan Philippon, Bay Tek Games’ CEO. “Flappy Bird is a popular and much talked about app. We look forward to launching this game with a price point that all can enjoy.”

Production units of the new game will be shipping in 2014.
