The Tanzania Gaming Board wants to impose a 10 pe rcent tax on virtual games, following the country’s introduction of legislation to permit that form of gambling.

The tax would be imposed on the GGR of virtual gaming, which was initially approved in 2019 but for which tax levels have not yet been set.

The law change in 2019 also included fresh licence categories for profit lotteries, service providers, entities supplying goods or services to operators and gaming consultants. Gaming contributed 3.5 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product in 2019.
