Swedish gaming operator Svenska Spel has said it achieved a share of 93.2 per cent of “healthy revenue” in Q2.

The company, following on from operator group Kindred and others, has begun reporting the share of its revenue that comes from customers who gamble responsibly and who present a low problem gambling risk.

The latest share of healthy revenue translated to a rise of one per cent, with Svenska Spel’s overall revenue amounting to SEK1.87bn (£) in Q2.

“Our goal is to increase the share of healthy revenue through upcoming measures that strengthen consumer protection around our games,” said Svenska Spel CEO and president Anna Johnson.

“We want to minimise revenue from customers who play in a way that can lead to problems. That's why we work purposefully so that our customers are aware and don't play for more than they can afford.”

Svenska Spel calculates its share of healthy revenue using risk models in its Playscan tool. These have been developed in partnership with Sustainable Interaction, an independent company focused on responsible gaming.

Customers are categorised in Playscan according to an analysis of their gambling habits and an assessment of the risk each customer has of developing gambling problems.

Svenska Spel said it is planning to introduce new measures in the Autumn that will “further strengthen consumer protection” around online gaming” and have a “positive effect on the share of healthy revenues.”

“As we have strengthened our gambling responsibility measures, the percentage of healthy revenue has continuously increased during the year. I hope that more gambling companies with a licence in Sweden start reporting this key figure in a reliable way,” Johnson added.
