Revenue for the online gaming market in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to grow rapidly between 2008 and 2013, according to In-Stat, the technology research firm.
Key factors driving this growth include growing household internet penetration, increased content development for online-specific games, and the unique experience that online gaming offers.
"The online gaming market in Asia-Pacific is growing in tandem with the significant increase in consumer internet use," commented In-Stat analyst Stephanie Ethier.
"In addition, the number of market players is rapidly expanding; therefore, improved content and a greater variety of games are keys to success in this market."
In-Stat said total revenue for the Asia-Pacific online gaming market is expected to reach US$21.1bn in 2013.
