Gross gaming revenue across France for online gaming operators for the first half of 2023 grew 10 per cent year-on-year, the French regulator has said.

GGR reached nearly €1.2bn, but L’Autorite Nationale des Jeux said the figure was still lower than in 2021 when Euro 2020 took place and customers were moved online due to pandemic restrictions in the retail market.
Monopoly operators La Française des Jeux and PMU, meanwhile, represented 78 per cent of the French market for the first half of this year, the ANJ said, with FDJ revenue at €3.3bn and up two per cent compared with the first half of 2022.
The ANJ said the launch of the FDJ’s poker offering in the second half of 2022 has helped the operator gain momentum into 2023, as have sports betting stakes at points of sale and in competition, where wagers increased by 13 per cent to almost €2.3bn or the period in question.
Lottery stakes increased by two per cent to reach €8.2bn, but the ANJ said that the lottery is operating at a “lower rate” than sports betting activities while remaining "efficient."
PMU's GGR amounted to €873m for the first half of 2023, up one per cent year-on-year, with horse racing betting in retail stabilising so far this year.
