South Africa’s online gaming industry is thriving, partially thanks to the fall in connectivity costs, reports Gaming for Africa.

Helped also by the pandemic lockdown, the online market is booming and financial experts predict a GGR of over US$2.3bn by the end of this year and annual growth of over six per cent. The number of active players is assessed as over 11 million.
Play.co.za, an online sports betting and gaming platform for South Africa, is a new venture by entrepreneur JP van der Spuy. “We are looking to shake up South Africa’s burgeoning online gaming industry,” said van der Spuy, who was the co-founder of online payment platform Callpay, which was sold last year for $6.8m.
Play.co.za has already attracted some big-name backers, including ESPN Africa and other big brand names.
