The Swedish gambling regulator has continued its crackdown against unlicensed entities, with Goodwin the latest company to be prohibited from operating in the jurisdiction.
After companies such as Versus Odds and Cosmogames were targeted in recent weeks, Goodwin – which operates the Immerion online gaming website – has been hit with regulatory action.
A review by the Swedish gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, found that the Curaçao-based company’s website has information in Swedish and an FAQ section in Swedish.
What’s more, “the investigation did not reveal any restrictions preventing Swedish consumers from registering and creating accounts on the website in question,” the regulator said.
“The Swedish Gambling Authority has determined that Goodwin provides gambling services in Sweden because the company’s website, Immerion, includes a Swedish FAQ as well as general information in Swedish. Furthermore, the company markets itself to Swedish consumers through affiliates.
“The Swedish Gambling Authority considers it important that the decision is enforced immediately, in light of consumer protection and to ensure gambling safety. The decision shall therefore take effect immediately.”
