Last week saw a three-hour strike by PokerStars players.

In protest of the two per cent rake increase on its new French site, players sat down at cash game tables and sat out to block the seats.

French law means that companies will be taxed two per cent on all cash game pots and tournament buy-ins. Poker companies can then choose whether to impose this tax on their customers by increasing the rake and tournament fees, or take the tax from their own margins. Pokerstars has chosen to impose everything on the players, which has caused great controversy.
