FairPlayUSA, a new coalition of politicians, poker enthusiasts and internet experts, has formed to address the US' ambiguous laws relating to internet poker.

Based in Washington DC, the organisation supports Congress defining what is illegal gambling and providing strong law enforcement tools to ban it, as well as providing a strict regulatory framework for online poker.

It is hoped the group will grow to include law enforcement officials, child safety and consumer protection experts, the commercial gaming industry and some of the world’s most prominent poker players. Currently, its Advisory Board comprises Tom Ridge, the former Governor of Pennsylvania, Parry Aftab, an internet safety expert, and Greg Raymer, a professional poker player.

The group’s executive director, Marisa McNee, said FairPlayUSA’s website and online petition will be the focal point for recruiting and organising supporters to actively engage with members of Congress.

"Outreach will be directed toward law enforcement officials, those who support internet consumer safety and online poker’s strongest asset - the millions of Americans who enjoy online poker."

Licensing and regulation of online poker in the US, said the group, will ensure American consumers are protected and that the jobs and taxes associated with this industry are remain in the country.
