Legalising mobile sports betting in New York took another step towards reality last week when state Governor Andrew Cuomo finally came around to the idea.

Cuomo has now released a statement that he is willing to move forward with online sports betting. The New York state budget has been crippled by the pandemic and is now facing an estimated $50bn deficit, which many pundits in the US believe has led to the climbdown by the governor.
Adjoining New Jersey has legalised mobile sports betting to New York’s detriment with an estimated 20 per cent of the gross take coming from New Yorkers. The state has the potential to become the largest sports betting market in the US and the governor feels that keeping the dollars in tax revenue at home will help the state recover.
