The Lottery Commission for the US state of Massachusetts has issued a formal request for information inviting submission from potential partners in an online lottery system for the state.

The public notice seeks proposals for “the development, implementation, operational support and maintenance of a Massachusetts Lottery ‘iLottery System’.”

In the notice, the Lottery Commission expressed interest in gaming systems that allow for “cross-pollination between online applications and physical retailer space and any other progressive gaming opportunities that may be available,” adding that social gaming and “daily fantasy sports options” were among the areas of interest.

Deborah Goldberg, Massachusetts state treasurer, has said previously that the lottery is too reliant on scratch tickets and keno, which account for 87 per cent of sales. Online sales are seen as an opportunity to appeal to a younger demographic.
