The Dutch gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has concluded a six-month investigation into the promotion of illegal gambling through magazines and online newspapers.

Some such adverts can be viewed by people who have registered with The Netherlands’ self-exclusion programme Centraal Register Uitsluiting Kansspelen (CRUKS), and can therefore be very harmful.

The KSA research team personally contacted 42 editors to emphasise the potential consequences of these sorts of adverts. A request was also made, successfully, to remove the links to advertisers and providers of illegal gambling services immediately.

After the personal contact, all organisations received an information letter with advice on how to prevent violations in the future.

The KSA declared that this research proves that “players are sometimes seduced into illegal gambling and even playing without Cruks without realising it.” As a result, it called on players to “always first consult the Gambling Guide on Kansspelautoriteit.nl,” which lists all licensed providers that are allowed to offer gambling in the Netherlands.
