Kindred has insisted that the 2020 fine for its Spooniker subsidiary for bonus rules violations should be rescinded in its entirety after it was reduced for a second time.

The Administrative Court of Appeal in Sweden has moved the cost of the fine down to SEK30m (£2.2m), down from SEK50m (£3.7m).

The original fine was SEK100m (£7.4m) and, issuing the penalty, the regulator Spelinspektionen said some of Spooniker’s offers, competitions and promotions were to be considered as financial incentives and therefore bonuses.

While Kindred said it “immediately changed its offerings” following regulator guidance, it has now said that the rules were “vague” and allowed for “different interpretations.”

The group added that the fine should therefore be “reduced in its total.”
