The German Commission for the Protection of Young People in the Media has approved HooYu as a suitable age verification system.

The commission offers providers legal certainty by reviewing concepts and systems to check that they meet the technical requirements to satisfactorily perform age verification which enables ID document validation and identification by means of an automated process involving the comparison of biometric data.

According to the Youth Media Protection State Treaty, content harmful to minors can only be distributed in telemedia if technical measures are used to ensure that only adults can access the content.     The approved HooYu process equips adult content providers, such as online gambling operators, with a suite of UI and UX tools that guide the user (in German or other user-defined language) to provide a selfie and image of their German ID document.

HooYu then performs a liveness detection process, an ID document validation by checking security features in the ID document image and a facial biometric comparison between the face in the selfie and the face in the ID document.

Ahead of the July 2021 deadline for compliance with the State Treaty on Gambling Regulation, gaming operators are now turning to age verification providers that have achieved the commission's approval.
