This year's annual GIGSE online gaming conference and exhibition in Montreal, Canada, suffered a severe drop in visitor and exhibitor numbers following the US clampdown.
Despite a bullish attitude from organisers River City Group, one source told InterGame that the show was a "wash-out."
"There were only around a dozen stands, and the small amount of visitors that attended must have been wondering why they bothered," said the source. "It’s clear that the US anti-online gambling legislation hit the show hard."
River City Group chief executive Sue Schneider told the conference that there was a need for more unification within the industry. "There’s still a lot of fragmentation," he said. "It’s been frustrating to see a lack of cohesion."
