Digital payments service provider Okto has appointed Edward Chandler, formerly of Barclays and Mastercard, as its new group CEO.

He will succeed current CEO and founder, Filippos Antonopoulos, who will become the company’s executive chairman.
Chandler (pictured), who was previously a group general manager for business development at Mastercard, was most recently the senior vice president and head of money movement solutions in Europe for Visa.
At Okto, he will join the board of directors and aim to continue the company’s expansion into high-growth sectors and new global regions.
Chandler will also be responsible for strengthening strategic partnerships that drive the adoption of embedded, frictionless payments and helping Okto leverage the latest technology.
“With my career rooted at the intersection of payments, technology and commerce, I’ve seen firsthand how innovation can transform businesses and customer experiences,” he said.
“Okto is uniquely positioned to lead the next generation of seamless, secure and customer-centric payment solutions, helping merchants navigate the future of payments.
“I look forward to working closely with Filippos and the talented team at Okto to drive innovation, accelerate growth, and expand our impact.”
Antonopoulos said Chandler’s “deep expertise and vision” in the payments industry will help Okto build on its “strong foundation.”
“Edward is a hands-on leader, maintaining empathy and inclusion as core principles of management. I’m wishing him best of success in our joint endeavour.”
Recent Okto partnerships have seen the company expand its presence in Italy, Serbia and Switzerland, where it acquired Aplauz, the Swiss subsidiary of Aplauz Financial Services.
Last August, the company made its debut in the Czech Republic.
