A year after issuing its first licences, the Danish Gambling Authority has extended 25 of the initial one-year permits for a period of five years.

The five Danish and 20 foreign operators have seen their licences extended while another nine have been issued with income-restricted licences, which limit gross gambling revenue to DKK 1m - around £100,000.

The DGA also confirmed that in 2012 it had requested a number of unlicensed providers cease operations, blocking illegal sites if operators did not comply.

Tina R Olsen, head of legal division at the DGA, said: “The scope of illegal websites in Denmark is estimated to be rather limited.

“The fact that 20 illegal websites have been blocked in 2012 illustrates that the DGA performs its obligation to monitor the Danish gambling market in order to protect both consumers and the legal operators on the market.”
