The Dutch gambling regulator has imposed a €900,000 fine on the operator of the Casinosky brand for illegally offering its services in the Netherlands.

Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) said the platform, operated by a company called Sarah Eternal, did not take any measures to prevent players from the Netherlands accessing its games.

What’s more, the KSA said Casinosky’s lack of age verification and the ability to use cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum to make deposits and play games led to the fine being upgraded from the basic €600,000 penalty.

The regulator added that autoplay was another aggravating factor in leading to a bigger fine.

“Based on the above findings, the Kansspelautoriteit classifies SE’s unauthorised and unregulated offering of online gambling as extremely serious and highly culpable,” it said.

KSA chairman Michel Groothuizen said: “'The Netherlands has a legal market to ensure that people who want to gamble can do so safely. With these types of illegal providers, we often see that no account is taken of the prevention of risky gaming behaviour.

“For example, there was no age verification, which also allows minors to play, and the possibility was offered to gamble with cryptocurrency. At KSA, we take tough action against these types of parties.”
