Responsible Wagering Australia has welcomed the introduction of BetStop, the country’s new national self-exclusion register.

BetStop allows players to opt out of all 150 licensed online wagering providers at once after previously having to go through individual operators’ channels to do so.
Players can self-exclude for a minimum of three months or permanently.
Responsible Wagering Australia CEO Kai Cantwell said: “The implementation of BetStop means that all 10 of the National Consumer Protection Framework measures are now up and running, giving customers the power to stay in control of their own gambling behaviour.
“During the roll out of BetStop, RWA members have worked collaboratively with the Australian Communications and Media Authority to ensure that the highest level of consumer protection is delivered to Australians.
“RWA provided extensive feedback on the model of BetStop and we are hopeful that our feedback has been taken on board, as any system failures – especially during peak periods such as Melbourne Cup or AFL and NRL finals – would significantly undermine this important service.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the government in good faith on a range of safer gambling measures so that Australians can continue to gamble safely in a regulated, onshore market.”
