Betsson has booked a 28.5 per cent increase in net profit for the first quarter of 2008, as the diversified online gaming solutions provider continues to grow its European customer base.

The Swedish group said earnings in the three months to March 31, 2008, totalled SEK53.6m (£4.5m), compared to the SEK41.7m (£3.5) in the comparable period last year.

Group revenue increased by 54 per cent to SEK227.8m (£19m), as the number of active Betsson customers rose more than 40 per cent since last year to 153,000.

"During the first quarter, Betsson has increased focus on customer acquisition and growth," said president and CEO, Pontus Lindwall.

"The investment has been successful and as a result of this we laid down a solid foundation for future growth during the year to come."
