BetMarkets, the first annual global sports betting conference, began on Monday in Vienna, Austria.

The show, which is taking place at Le Meridien Hotel, managed to attract senior executives, journalists and industry observers from around the world.
Delivering the opening address on the first day of the event, Sue Schneider, chief executive of Clarion River City Group, said BetMarkets had been created to provide those within the industry the opportunity to discuss the issues of today, in addition to hosting seminars which touch upon both terrestrial and online sports betting.
Ladbrokes executives Kevin Hopgood and Michael Charlton delivered a speech focusing upon Asia and the many important considerations that need to be taken into account in order to successfully establish a presence in this complex legal and political landscape.
Other highlights over the two days include a discussion of the recent events in Germany by Konrad Miller, attorney-at-law for Hambach and Hambach, in-depth analysis of the Placanica ruling by Stefano Sbordini, partner for Italian law firm Studio Legale Sbordini, and interactive roundtable discussions on Europe.
"With so many changes in the legal landscape for sports betting taking place across the globe, 2007 will be a great year for conquering new and old challenges, as well as embracing exciting opportunities in jurisdictions around the world," said River City spokeswoman Justina Cruikshank.
