Following Cyprus’ move to ban online gaming and exchange betting, it has been reported that Betfair is threatening to take the country’s government to an international court.

The group, which receives around four per cent of its revenue from Cyprus, said it would use legal action in Brussels at the European Union, according to a report in the Financial Times.

Last week saw the country’s House of Representatives unanimously approve online sports betting while simultaneously impose a ban on online casino games and exchange betting.

Betfair has previously stated plans for international expansion, with Cyprus being cited as one of the markets it had wanted to expand in.
