Abidjan, a city in the Ivory Coast, was host to the first and largest esports event in Africa from November 11-12.

The event saw 256 gamers gather to compete for cash prizes amounting to CFA8,500,000 (€13,000) at the Palais de la Culture.

Sidick Bakayoko, event organiser, said: “This is the first time in Africa that gamers from African countries have come together to compete on such a large scale. Beyond the show and the prizes, our objective was to establish a platform to emulate and also connect the industry players. Africa accounts for only one per cent of a $100bn industry so the opportunity is real. We want to make this event an annual meeting.”
