The Colombian regulator successfully intervened to stop what it said would have been a promotional event for an illegal gambling provider on Friday.

Colombia

Earlier last week, regulator Coljuegos warned operator 1Win and its affiliate arm 1Win Partners that the Viva 1Win Partners Colombia event should not go ahead because the brand did not have the authorisation to operate in the country.

Coljuegos said in a statement on Saturday that restaurant staff at Colosal Restaurant in Medellín, where the event was to be held on Friday, confirmed that 1Win had cancelled the event that same morning.

However, regulatory officials still went to the restaurant to ensure no activity went ahead.

Coljuegos said: “We call on all betting houses interested in operating in Colombia to request the corresponding authorisation from Coljuegos.

“Only through legality and transparency can a safe and reliable environment be built for Colombian bettors.”

The planned event was designed to promote 1Win’s affiliate arm.
