JAMMA remains focused on domestic market
This year's JAMMA show, held in Tokyo, Japan, from September 15 - 17, was once again a very domestic show, highlighting new product specifically targeted at the Japanese arcade market.
However, it did attract some internationals with Embed's Adam Steinberg and Mark Easte spotted by InterGame's Japanese representative, looking for new opportunities.
New product on show included Sega's Star Horse 3, a horse racing game, which has had massive success in Japan and is linkable up to 18-players. It is similar to Derby Owner's Club released in Europe.
From Bandai Namco, Tekken Tag Tournament was showcased as was a new version of drum game Midnight Maxim Tune 4, which features a new design. Taito showcased Kick Through the Racers and KNT exhibited shooting game Ace Sniper which is electronically controlled but features a virtual shoot out of real BB bullets. For safety, it only works when aimed at the target.
InterGame also spoke with Mr Jinguji from RS, who reported good results with Gaelco's dart game having worked hard to get the machines linked across Japan for tournament play as well as at an international level. The company also presented Push Me Out, a pusher game that displays toys and Toru-Toru Bingo, which also pays out varying sizes of prizes depending on the result.
InterGame also noticed an increase in cranes and medal games at this year's show, including DECA-CRE, a crane that comes in a larger and mini size and Geminichi both from KNT.
