GONE are the days when the jukebox was the only way to play an old forgotten record. Smartphones now provide access to streaming sites that can recall entire back-catalogues at the swipe of a touchscreen.

It is now paramount that media be as accessible as possible: on-demand services offer hours of TV and movies instantly, where streaming sites and portable music players offer almost every feasible song choice imaginable. All the signs point towards the jukebox suffering as it struggles to keep up with the ease and convenience of smartphone technology. But the industry has survived because of constant innovation, according to Dietmar Straubinger of TAB Austria, who has experienced success by tapping into the popularity of the features of modern technology and incorporating them into the classic jukebox model.
