Jon Sander was the recipient of the 2008 Mary Openshaw Memorial Award for Excellence at the AmEx show in Dublin, Ireland.

Sander has been associated with the coin-operated leisure industry since the beginning of the 1960s. The early years were spent in the south-east of England with a large operating company. He later met with Jim Moran who, under the banner of Moran’s Music Company, was at that time the largest operator of arcades and single sites in Ireland.

He is actively involved in Northern Ireland Amusement Caterers Trade Association, being its honorary secretary for the past 21 years. In that capacity Sander has been instrumental in helping to achieve numerous amendments to the Northern Ireland gaming legislation which has enhanced the industry as a whole.

The first recipient of the award was Eduardo Antoja, president of Euromat, the second was Mike Nevin, managing director of Namco Europe, third was Hans Rosenzweig, former president of Euromat, and the fourth well-known industry personality Shane Breaks.
