A new 1,850m zipline is currently under construction in Rwandan national park and aims to increase the number of tourists visiting the area.

Nyungwe

Located in the Nyungwe National Park, the Rwanda Development Board hope it will eventually attract 9,000 tourists a year.

Rich in natural biodiversity, the park is one of Africa’s oldest rainforests and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 13 different species of primates are found there, including the common chimpanzee. A spring on the slopes on Mount Bigugu in the park is also said to be the furthest source of the River Nile.

The New Times reports that construction is already 99 per cent complete and is currently undergoing testing, while park staff and being trained on its operation.

The development is part of the national park’s aims to become financially sustainable by 2030.
