Triangle Amusements, the new owner of Great Yarmouth’s Britannia Pier in the UK, has announced major plans for the popular attraction’s development.

Triangle’s Joseph Abbott and Joseph Manning, who took over the site at the end of last year, have already revitalised the arcades and added rides, but the main frontage is the principal upgrade.
They want to make the entrance area a year-round attraction and they have released a concept design that shows the kerbside entrance upgraded with twin art-deco towers that align with those on the neighbouring Wellington Pier.
The next-door Pier Tavern will now have direct access into the upgraded arcade and there are plans for better access to the Promenade and to the beach.
A statement released by the partnership said that the plans are only the first phase of the modernising of the pier. “As with all our plans and ideas for the pier, its heritage and history are always at the forefront of our minds.
"We aim to extend our trading period into the winter months, which the pier currently does not have the facility to do. This will benefit the community and businesses by keeping the seafront bustling and open even during the quieter months.”
The plans still have to be approved but they include a digital screen and more signage to the outside and some fresh construction to the current amusements building. The Sea Chef restaurant will also become an arcade.
The pier dates back to 1858 and was originally 700ft long, but a year after opening a ship collided with the pier in a storm and the structure was shortened. Then the pier was demolished in 1899 after further storm damage and the current 810ft structure was erected in 1900.
