A major payment error has led to revelations that visitors to the Brighton Palace Pier in England have been charged over £2,000 too much for tickets to ride the attractions.

The owners of the pier blamed an issue with payment processing by Worldpay, with the date being mistakenly entered as the transaction amount.

Riders have been shocked when they saw their bank accounts. One woman who took her sons to the pier for the rides found two payments of £2,104.13 charged to her account.

The incidents took place on Tuesday of this week (June 22) and now Worldpay is working to refund the money "urgently."
