In New Zealand, the Returned Services Association has warned that its branches face significant costs to change their gaming machines to accept the country’s new banknotes.

New NZ$5 and $10 notes entered circulation in October and RSA national president Barry Clark told Stuff.co.nz that branches of the organisation have to “foot the bill” for new note acceptors to be fitted to their gaming machines.

“We have been aware that this would be the case, however, it hasn’t lessened the financial pain,” he said.

Many clubs rely on the income from gaming machines, but it is believed some are abandoning gaming due to the high cost of compliance.
