New York Governor David Paterson has confirmed federal stimulus funds will close next year's $14bn deficit and eliminate the need for a number of new proposed taxes.

Amusement operators escaped a broadly defined sales tax on entertainment activities and sporting events eliminated from the state’s 2009 budget.

The AMOA of New York lobbied against the entertainment tax, which alarmed New York’s operators because it could have been imposed on gross receipts generated by coin-op amusement devices.

Additionally the governor withdrew a proposed iPod tax on download music and other digitally delivered entertainment services. According to AMOA-NY it was unclear whether the proposal would have taxed jukebox activity.
