Lee Wild sits down with a former real estate developer turned bowling operator Ed Kinsley to find out why North Bowl is leading the way.

Picture the scene. It’s 2007, you work in real estate development and the subprime mortgage crisis has just taken your livelihood and crashed the global economy. What do you do next? For most people, moving across the US and purchasing a 40-year-old bowling centre wouldn’t be their first choice, but most people aren’t Ed Kinsley.

Fast forward to 2025 and Kinsley is the owner of North Bowl in North Attleborough, Massachusetts, a 40-lane tenpin bowling centre that was originally built in 1962 but came into the ownership of Kinsey and his wife Kelli in 2008. The pair searched for a while for the perfect venue, scouring their home state of California. When nothing came up, they looked at the east coast and settled on North Attleborough, a small town of around 30,000 people just north of Providence, Rhode Island. It was something of a homecoming for Kinsley, who was born just 15 miles away before making the move to California. Kinsey explained: “I was in the real estate development business when the market collapsed in 2007 and needed to find another way to make a living.
