InterGame has learnt that while street operations continue to suffer from the economic climate in New Zealand, arcades are holding their own.
Now entering its fourth quarter of recession, street sites in the country are seeing much lower numbers, which is meaning the games have less opportunity to convert passers-by into players.
Another knock-on effect of the economic climate, according to InterGame sources, is that game prices for machines such as cranes are increasing to $2 to compensate for the expense of importing toys against the weak New Zealand dollar.
However, there are some positives for the market - Namco Tekken Blood Rebellion upgrade kits have now arrived making one of the best games to hit the market even better.
The Initial D5 upgrade kit from Sega has also arrived and means all operators need is a server to link two games. This is returning some really good income in certain sites.
Mini Rider 2, from Sega, is also proving to be a great game and is an "excellent format" for two players and is earning well on $4 play set-up.
