An application to build a new mini-golf course in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, US, has split opinion.

Ocean Isle

Apterra Infrastructure Capital has submitted proposals for a new 18-hole course to be built close to the city’s town hall, which will be themed to a shipwreck. Plans show 50 car parking spaces will be built alongside the course, as well as a clubhouse.

The course would feature a waterfall, pond area and large wrecked ship.

While the plans currently only feature one course, it does include the possibility for a second to be built at some point in the future.

The application has divided the beachfront town, with Star News Online reporting that Ocean Isle Beach commissioner Tom Athey said that the town doesn’t have the infrastructure to support another business. There are already two other mini-golf courses in the area.

Ocean Isle Beach’s commissioners said they wanted to avoid it turning into the next Myrtle Beach, which is resort city focused on entertainment in South Carolina.
