UK-based snooker cloth manufacturer Milliken is benefiting from the upsurge in interest in cue sports in Asia.
Thailand’s staging of the IBSF world snooker championships and the 24th SEA Games in December has led to a new generation of players keen to join the professional ranks.
The tournaments are proving to be a solid grounding for emerging talent, with Hong Kong’s Marco Fu joining Ding Junhui and James Wattana in becoming the third Asian player to win a ranking event.
Much of this success is due to the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports president Sindhu Pulsirivong, who also heads the Thailand Snooker Association. And for UK manufacturer Milliken, business remains excellent across Asia, where Strachan is the official supplier of 6811 cloth to the ACBS and its 30 affiliated countries.
“English-made cloth is a must-have in Asia, with both amateur and professional players preferring a cloth that is very similar to that used in world ranking events,” reports Milliken Woollen Speciality Products marketing director Duncan Kettell.
“The Strachan 6811 brand is recognised worldwide for its quality and responsiveness and, through our close association with the IBSF, ACBS and other regulators, we expect exports to continue in a very positive fashion next year.”
