After all, it’s a very good place to start. Or at least it is for those embarking on their first foray into running an FEC. Dan Snook and a few industry experts break it down.

I SPENT a lot of my youth, growing up as I did in the UK of the late ’70s and early ’80s (yes, yes - hard to believe, I know), playing the video games of the industry’s golden era. It took me everywhere from the Space Odyssey arcade in Rochdale to the Golden Goose on the promenade in Llandudno while visiting grandparents, to the odd random upright cabinet in fish and chip shops and taxi offices that were scattered around my home village. I thought that they were the pinnacle, the absolute apex (puns intentional) of out-of-home entertainment - not that that phrase was even a thing way back then.
But if the ghost of arcade future had visited a young Dan Snook and shown him what the world’s youth have at their disposal today, it would have blown his tiny, eight-bit mind. If he had been whisked around a Dave and Buster’s, Timezone, Rec Room, Sparky’s or Andretti’s (other quality FECs are available) he would have been in a state of almost catatonic disbelief. He would also, however, been incredibly impressed. Just as the forty - er - something-year-old version is today.
