Rather than relying on coin-op vending machines, Dutch firm A Lab has come up with a unique way of providing coffee to its workers – a drone.
According to Vending Times, A Lab has programmed a drone capable of serving drinks to employees across different floors within its building.
A Lab employees can order coffee via a smartphone app without leaving their desks or conference room. The orders are received by baristas in the company’s café, who prepare the drinks and then send them out via the Coffee Copter.
Programmed with a 3D algorithm, the copter is able to fly routes through the building and land on specially-designed landing pillars. A stabiliser keeps the coffee from spilling and object recognition technology ensures the drone doesn’t collide with people or objects.
There are plans to bring the drone to the commercial market.
