Marshall Ashdown, group sales manager for children's ride manufacturer Jolly Roger, based in the UK, has raised almost £10,000 in sponsorships for charities Children with Leukaemia and Facing Africa.

Ashdown will take part in the Marathon Des Sables, which begins in Morocco on Sunday, March 30, and is a massive 245.3km long.

Although he has followed an intensive training regime, Ashdown will have to brave extreme temperatures of 42 degrees centigrade in the day and -20 at night, while carrying all his kit and food for the week on his back.

Supporters can keep track of his daily progress by looking up his race number 866 on www.darbaround.com and it will also be televised on one of the satellite sports channels, which is yet to be confirmed.
