This year's JAMMA show in Tokyo, Japan, held last week, was "quieter than the previous year," according to a visitor InterGame spoke to.
“The visitors were mainly domestic or regional; there were not many visitors from the US or other countries. Personally, I am really disappointed with the innovation coming out of Japan. There seems to be a vacuum created in the period of the global financial meltdown and the impact is surfacing now.
“Hopefully, R&D will get back to its earlier aggression now and we will see some good innovative product coming out soon. The Japanese arcade manufacturers really need to put on their creative hats or else the more contemporary mobile and console gaming is going to give them a run.
“It\‘s always good to attend JAMMA and we rely on buying a reasonable quantity of games from Japan, so I will go next year as well and hopefully the show will be back to its former glory.”
