The early success of the Smileland family entertainment centre brand in Erbil, in northern Iraq, has convinced its operators of the potential for further amusements projects across the country.

Smileland Smileland

Smileland opened its first business in 2011, providing games and rides - both large and small - for children, as well as attractions for adults, such as billiards and foosball in its locations.

Commercial manager Sarwat Rashid said his company is looking beyond Erbil for new opportunities.

“Our mindset is that in the future we will be found in other cities,” he told InterGame. “We currently have only indoor amusement parks in several places but we also have great interest even in opening outdoor theme parks.

“We opened in 2011 and it’s been good for us. We focus on quality and try to be the best on the market.”  The local market is quite competitive, with a number of other operating companies involved in the sector, Rashid said.

“We are among the best and have a good reputation,” he added.
