Intralot NZ, a subsidiary of Intralot, has successfully commissioned, in conjunction with the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs, 1,613 licensed venues, 20,256 gaming machines and 1,000 jackpot controllers onto a new electronic monitoring system in New Zealand.

Following an international procurement by the DIA in May 2005, Intralot was selected as the service provider to implement and operate the EMS on behalf of the New Zealand Government. The connection of all venues was completed 10 days ahead of the statutory deadline in March.

The most important aspect of the EMS is the prevention of illegal gambling, guaranteeing the integrity of games and limiting opportunities for fraud. The system enables the Department to monitor the operation of individual gaming machines in pubs and clubs.

The system also authenticates every gaming machine and game software, ensuring that only approved gaming machine configurations are used. Unauthorised or tampered machines and games will be disabled by the system.

Intralot NZ CEO Dr Ioannis Katakis said: “It was a big achievement to complete such a complex project ahead of time.”
