The Indian amusement market is continuing to experience growth despite the economic slowdown, according to reports.
IAAPI’s president Arijit Sengupta said: "We continue to grow at 10 to15 per cent despite the slowdown. Though the sector is expected to experience an impact to the slowdown that has not happened as yet but how long the situation will remain positive is not known."
For Sengupta though, the industry has been badly affected by the lack of a uniform entertainment tax for amusement parks.
"Since entertainment tax is a state issue, each state has its own policy. Entertainment tax ranges from five per cent in Karnataka, 10 per cent in Maharashtra, 25 per cent in Gujarat to as high as 40 per cent in Punjab," he said.
IAAPI has made representations to individual state governments to provide for a level playing field to the players.
"We have urged them to keep it to a minimum of about five per cent in order to pass on the benefit to customers."
