A new immersive experience featuring AR and VR technologies is set to open in Toronto, Canada, next month.

Illuminarium Toronto

Illuminarium is set to open a new 13,500sq.ft space in the city’s Distillery Historic District that will combine cinematic and interactive content, architecture and theatrical design.

It will be the company’s third location in North America, after Atlanta and Las Vegas in the US.

Initially set to open with two differing experiences, Illumniarium is partnering with Toronto-based Secret Location to combine cutting-edge technology with immersive storytelling to create digital projection-mapped experiences.

The venue will use Lidar sensors, scent machines and what Illuminarium calls “the world’s most advanced RGB pure laser projection.”

The first experience is called Space: A Journey to the Moon and Beyond, which will take visitors on a journey across the galaxy using imagery from the James Webb Telescope. The second is named Waking Wonderland, where guests will tumble down the rabbit hole into a world inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

Ryan Andal, president and founder of Secret Location, said: “We're so excited to join together to bring Illuminarium to Toronto. Illuminarium's platform gives us the ability to uniquely combine techniques used in traditional motion picture production and virtual reality to make you feel like you are actually there.

“While Illuminarium at The Distillery District is an incredible canvas for us as creators, I think it's even more exciting for our guests as it's something they could never experience at home.”

Alan Greenberg, CEO of Illuminarium Experiences, added: “We're thrilled to open our first Illuminarium in Canada.

“Toronto is booming with entertainment creation so it was a natural fit for us to open up our first Canadian experience here. We look forward to showcasing our unparalleled immersive offerings with exclusive content pieces as well as the entertainment programming we have in our US locations.”
