What is left of the beleaguered Greek coin machine business could be removed at a stroke if fresh proposals on Greek machine laws are approved, warns the industry.

The Greek Government has issued draft provisions on amusement machines which would see the operation of machines subject to licensing by local authorities and tough measures to ensure that the games are not used for gambling. Additionally, amusement machines would have to be fitted with online monitoring devices.

A Consultative Games Committee would be set up under the Ministry of Economy and Finance to study the market and make recommendations, investigating every machine entering the country and controlling technical specifications.

Penalties for breaking the new regulations would include prison, heavy fines and loss of licences for both the licence-holder and his family.
