Judgement was handed down by the European Court yesterday describing the action by the Greek Government to ban electronic and electro-mechanical amusement games in 2002 as being against EC law.
The Greek industry is ecstatic at the news, as the action had effectively killed off amusement arcades overnight and stopped the operation of virtually all kinds of games. The ban was further extended to all games played on electronic devices, including internet cafés, in public places. This extended also to touchscreen games.
The court branded the Greek action as an overreaction to a perceived problem - games being used for gambling.
