New proposals to regenerate the former UK park Dreamland - home to the historic scenic railway - with other leisure projects have met with approval from residents.
It is suggested that the majority of the site be kept as a park, with over 90 per cent of petitioned respondents agreeing to this. The Dreamland Cinema building should also continue to be used for entertainment use, respondents said, though the majority disagreed that residential buildings should feature in the plans.
Cllr Roger Latchford, in charge of culture and economy, said: "We have listened to people’s views and understand their concerns about the idea of enabling development on the site. We also hear what people are saying about wanting to keeping the majority of the site as an amusement park, but unfortunately, one is unlikely to happen without the other.
"The simple truth is that some level of residential development would fund the future running of an amusement park and we have to be realistic about that."
