Clip 'n Climb Derby has become the first of the company's centres in the UK to implement its BelayMate product.
BelayMate is a connection device for climbers using auto belays. It is a tamper-proof system that ensures climbers are connected securely to the auto belay line before they commence climbing. A unique sequencing mechanism ensures that either the harness connector or the ground anchor connector has to be engaged into the main body at any time. The engagement of one connector automatically unlocks the other. The BelayMate connection system eliminates the need for close supervision while at the same time increasing climber safety. This can also lead to savings by reducing the number of staff required in larger climbing centres.
According to the company, Clip 'n Climb Derby decided to install BelayMate on each of its 19 lines to save on wages and line wear.
Emma Haslam, owner of the location, said: “My staff didn’t like it at first as it changed their role. We explained the advantages of BelayMate and now they love it. They now have more time to provide helpful climbing tips, teaching customers how to climb and to interact better with them."
“It is very easy to use," she added. “Familiarity with the system takes less than 10 minutes and children as young as seven years can use it without assistance.”
