Bob Fay, Merit Entertainment's director of government relations, has announced that the Panyu Branch of the Guangzhou Administration of Industry and Commerce has sentenced another maker of Merit copies.

In the ruling, Chengtai Electronics Science and Technology Company was found to have violated trademark laws, while also sustaining illegal business operations charges.

As a result of the sentencing, the AIC fined Chengtai, confiscated illegal income, destroyed games seized during the raids and issued an order to cease their unregistered business activities immediately.

Fay praised the AIC and said: “If we catch Chengtai dealing with Merit copies in the future, Chengtai could face harsher sentencing under China criminal law.”

Another infringing company, Totem, has absconded while the Nancun Branch of the Panyu AIC was preparing its penalty decision. “We will continue to pursue copiers of Merit software and users of Merit copy software, not only in China, but globally,” added Fay.
