The OXO Videogame Museum of Malaga had its opening ceremony today.

The landmark 2,000sq.ft museum cost €2m and is part of an initiative by the Malaga Provincial Council, and aims to attract over 160,000 visitors in the first year, reports The Olive Press.

The museum is situated over five floors, and can be found at the Patronato de Turismo building in the Plaza del Siglo.

It pays homage to the past 70 years' of innovation in the industry, and also affords insights on upcoming trends.

It will feature a permanent collection, which will review the history of video games from the 1970s, a temporary exhibition space, and an OXO labs venue, dedicated to experimentation.

"The museum will be unique in Europe, and will complete the Malaga province's cultural, leisure, and tourism offer", said Francisco Salado of the local council.

Spain's videogame industry had a turnover of €1,700m in 2021, and the Malaga Provinical Council are reportedly aiming to make the museum the "second most visited museum in the Malaga province."

The museum will be officially open to the public from January 27.
